BRASS - Building Relationships Around Successful Service
About BRASS
If you can answer yes to any of the following questions, then the BRASS program is for YOU!!!
- Do you have a 7-12 grader that you are willing to spend 2 hours a week with?
- Are you willing to try something new and family-friendly that works?
- Would you like your family and community to be stronger?
- Would you like to have free fun with your family?
We all have family connections that are interesting, tricky and fun. BRASS is a family program that is designed for all families to build on the family connections that already exist - through games, hands-on projects, discussion, and community service.
At BRASS, families work on strengthening their relationships with each other and performing volunteer community projects. The group plans and implements at least one community service project each month. Some examples of projects they completed in the last year are:
- Raised $356 for the Alzheimer's Foundation by hosting a Benefit Rock Concert with 6 bands volunteering their time
- Washed windows and groomed the mulch in the garden at The Village of Heritage
- Painted a community playground in Monroeville and donated new park benches, swings, soccer nets/balls and other playground equipment
- Cleaned and painted the storage closet at the Monroeville Park Pavilion
BRASS is organized into 7 week blocks that start throughout the year. Meetings are typically on Wednesday night, but might also include a weekend service project. Families are welcome to participate in any block or multiple blocks throughout the year. Family attendance awards are available to those families who demonstrate a commitment to the entire 7-week block!
By offering the BRASS program, we are strengthening the following assets: #1 Family Support, #2 Positive Family Communication, #3 Other Adult Relationships, #8 Youth As Resources, #9 Service to others, #11 Family Boundaries, #26 Caring, #32 Planning & Decision Making, #39 Sense of Purpose.
