
TSYC, Inc. Timeline
March 2000 - Three founders, Pastor Sandy Knepple, Evelyn Wilson, and Kent Castleman meet for first time.
October 2000 - Board incorporated as The Monroeville Youth Center Council.
February 2001 - Board files for non-profit 501(c)3 status.
April 11, 2001 - Received non-profit 501(c)3 status.
April 21, 2001 - Signed purchase agreement for old Clem Hardware building.
April - December 2001 - First capital campaign to purchase old Clem Hardware building runs. Board not able to leverage enough funds to purchase building.
September 22, 2001 - 1st Annual Youthfest held at Monroeville Community Park as first youth event.
November 2001 - Filed for Amended name.
February 2002 - Organization renamed the Southeast Youth Council, Inc.
February 2002 - First Executive Director hired.
March 2002 - TSYC begins renting Old Monroeville Lumber Company showroom and workshop.
May 7, 2002 - Opened the Cornerstone Youth Center with drop-in center hours of Tuesday and Thursday from 6-9pm and Saturdays from 7pm-midnight.
December 2003 - First Annual New Year's Eve Lock-In is successfully planned and attended. The program is funded through generous donations from individuals and businesses in the community.
December 2003 - Purchased the building being rented, adjacent 50 X 125 foot unfinished storage barn, 30 X 125 lumber storage rack and two parcels of ground. Several foundations gave grants to purchase the property and the rest was financed through a mortgage.
April 2004 - Hired first employee in addition to executive director.
June 2004 - First program beyond drop-in center hours started. CHAOS - Creating Healthy Attitudes Outside of School, is a program aimed at giving youth an avenue for healthy discussion on topics that matter to teens.
August 2004 - Expanded center hours to six days a week including weekday afternoon hours and Friday/Saturday night hours.
September 2004 - Opened Education Center for homework assistance.
October 2004 - Tech Team Program is started; aimed at teaching youth basic troubleshooting skills, software and hardware installation, network set-up and maintenence on computers.
April - October 2005 - Renovated interior of building by adding an education center, game room, and closing/expanding the upstairs loft. The interior was completely dry walled and painted with new floor coverings as well. Thousands of dollars of material and labor donations as well as hundreds of hours of volunteer time made the renovation possible.
June 2005 - BRASS - Building Relationships Around Successful Service Program is started. The program involves parents and teens coming together weekly to work on building their relationships as well as work on a monthly service planned and implemented by the group.
September 2005 - Cornerstone Coffee House is launched to provide older teens in grades 10-12 with a mature atmosphere in a safe environment to opening discuss issues related to ATOD - Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drugs.
December 2005 - Paid off mortgage by collecting donations from 11 individuals, two corporations and one local church.
February-March 2006 - Kitchen/snack area of center renovated with the help of a local contractor. The new cabinets and ceiling finished the interior remodel of the center.
May 2006 - Began construction on outdoor activity area by deconstructing two-thirds of the lumber storage rack.
August 2006 - Launch new website and begin accepting online donations.
September 2006 - Concrete for basketball court poured.
September 2006 - Cornerstone Coffee House is expaned to include monthly Saturday evening concerts with local artisits and witness talks from people whose lives were effected by ATOD- Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs.
November 2006 - Fence installed to define outdoor activity area.
March 2007 - Center recieves technology grant to purchase 15 new computers, a copy machin, phone system, color printer and many other needed technology items to improve effectiveness of our service to youth and efficiency of staff.
May 2007 - Have 5 Year Anniversary Celebration of the Center opening. Founding board members are recognized with the Kathy Lepper Service Award for their commitment to the organization.
September 2007 - Sidewalks installed and dirt brought in for outdoor activity area.
