Mission & Vision

It was once said that the mightiest of bamboo plants can sometimes take up to five years before the seed sprouts a single shoot. During those years, the seed germinates and spends time growing and developing deep, strong roots. These roots form the foundation to support the plant that can sometimes reach 90 feet within one growing season.

Our belief is very much the same. We believe our youth need time to grow and develop deep, strong roots that help sustain their foundation as adults. We will aid in this development by offering supports to uphold their foundation through the following mission and vision.

The Southeast Youth Council dba Cornerstone Youth Center is an independent not-for-profit agency offering enrichment and educational support to youth in grades 7-12 in Southeast Allen County year around. Our staff provides positive adult role models to support healthy youth development. Programs promote healthy lifestyles; encourage healthy relationships with family and peers; promote education; provide art and science activities; deter use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs; encourage career exploration; and provide a safe environment for youth who might otherwise be left unsupervised. Programs and activities offered after-school as well as during evenings and weekends. Summer camps focusing on wellness, leadership, and culinary skills are offered.

The Monroeville Youth Center Council was incorporated in 2000 to provide positive alternatives for youth who had very few options for recreation and entertainment. Realizing that youth throughout southeast Allen County could benefit from services, the group changed its name to the Southeast Youth Council in 2002 to broaden its reach. In May 2002, the agency began offering drop-in hours on two weeknights and Saturday evenings. Since that time, the agency has continued to expand its vision and enrich its programming. Today, the agency, doing business as Cornerstone Youth Center is an independent not-for-profit agency serving youth in grades 7-12 in Southeast Allen County year around.
